You'd like to bake, but you can't really get to grips with operating your oven anymore? Do you no longer dare to bake your favourite cake because you are worried about choosing the wrong setting? You are not alone. Many people with low vision have problems operating ovens because they cannot read the symbols and markings on the control knobs.

With Feelware Audio Voice Output, we adapt ovens to the needs of blind and visually impaired people. When an oven has been retrofitted with the voice output, it tells you the settings of the control knobs. This means that you are always well informed when baking and can operate and switch off the appliance safely.

The voice output consists of intelligent rotary knobs that we manufacture especially for your appliance. The control knobs are mounted on your oven in place of the original knobs. This is very easy, because the knobs are only plugged into the oven. No tools are needed and the conversion is done within a few minutes. As soon as the Feelware knobs are fitted to the oven, they register the setting and send it by radio to the AudioBox supplied. The AudioBox has a speaker and announces the settings.

Is it worth converting an older appliance at all?

Yes, it is usually worthwhile to use the Feelware voice output even on an older oven for the following reasons:

1. Being able to provide yourself with hot food independently is invaluable for many people. The voice output gives you the security of always knowing how your oven is set.

2. cookers and ovens are replaced on average only after more than 22 years of operation. The appliances are very durable and it is not uncommon for an appliance to continue to work reliably after 25 years or more. So an oven that is 10 or 15 years old can still be safely equipped with the voice output to be able to use it for many years to come.

3 The purchase of the Feelware Audio retrofit is an investment that pays off in the long run. If the current oven is defective, it can also be fitted to the next oven. To do this, we adapt the voice output to the next appliance and then help you operate your new appliance. So you don't have to buy a new voice output and with your investment you can continue to cook and bake safely and independently in the future.

How can I tell if my oven can learn to talk?

The Feelware Audio retrofit is very flexible to use and fits many cookers and ovens. The following characteristics must be fulfilled by an appliance in order to be equipped with the voice output:

1. The appliance must have rotary knobs. It does not matter whether the knobs are fixed or retractable.

2. The knobs shall be removable from the control panel.

3. The knobs are located on the front of the unit. Unfortunately, appliances that have their knobs on top, e.g. on the hob, cannot learn to speak.

4. The settings of the knobs are printed on the knobs themselves or on the control panel.

What is the procedure when I order the Feelware Audio retrofit?

If the above requirements are met, we need some photos of the appliance for the conversion:

Picture 1: A picture of the cooker or oven from the front.

Picture 2: If it is a cooker, we need a picture of the hob.

Picture 3: A picture of the knob for setting the temperature. The picture should show the temperature scale.

Picture 4: Picture of the knob of a hob. The labelling should be visible on the picture.

Picture 5: A picture of the type plate of the oven. On most ovens, this is located in the area of the oven door.

We will contact you immediately and let you know whether the Feelware Audio retrofit can also be adapted to your appliance.

You will receive a dispatch note from us to send the knobs of your oven to us. We will measure the knobs precisely in our workshop. We will send your control knobs back to you immediately. In many cases, we can send the voice output to you with the original oven knobs. However, it can also be that we need a few weeks to produce the voice output individually for you. In this case, you will receive the voice output in a separate shipment.

When the voice output arrives, the knobs are simply plugged into your device in place of the original knobs. A sighted person can easily do this within 5 minutes. Now the AudioBox is connected to a socket in the same room and your oven can speak.

The installation of the voice output can be done by a sighted person. Special skills are not necessary. If you do not have anyone in your environment who can help you with the installation, we will find craftsmen in your vicinity to install the voice output. On request, we offer instruction in use and operation. Services are subject to an extra charge.
